"We are now the Weather Makers"
My reading for Labor Day weekend was the Weather Makers by Tim Flannery. This book is definitely a must read if you are at all interested in climate change, which we all should be because it will affect all our lives, and definitely the lives of everyone we know today who are under 50 years old.

Why some countries are more powerful than others
by Ed Tongson
Guns, Germs and Steel is a Pullitzer prize winning book by Jared Diamond. The book goes back to pre-historic and historic times to explain why some states evolved to become more powerful than others. He explains that a key factor is the ability of primitive societies to shift from hunting and gathering to food production through agriculture and domestication of plants and animals.
